The culture I’d like to live in

I'm a person who can make the best of every season. In summer I work, swim and jog. In fall I rake the leaves and pick blueberries. In winter I both ski and plough the snow. In spring, however, I have nothing to do. Because of those reasons I would like to live in a country as similar to Finland as possible. Somewhere with all the seasons. Somewhere where I would be surrounded by a lovely environment. I would like to live in Canada.

I have read that the Canadian school system is very similar to the one we have here. You go to school from Monday to Friday, from nine o'clock in the morning to half three in the afternoon. In some school's you must wear a school uniform but it wouldn't matter so much. At least then I wouldn't have to waste my time thinking about the following day's clothing.

I have also heard that Canada is a welfare state and a wealthy society. Its culture has been influenced by English, French, Irish and Scottish cultures, which makes the country interresting to live in. It would be so awesome to be able to hear three different lilts of English and maybe some French along the way. That would not only improve my English speaking and listening skills but also while living in Canada I would get a chance to start learning French both at school and in my free time. How cool could that be!

The main reason why I am so eager to move to Canada is that it reminds me of Finlands nature so much that I wouldn't get homesick so easily. Endless forests with their wildlife lure you inside the natures beauty and dangers. Camping would be really lovely there and a great experience. Hopelly I would get stunning pictures with my camera.

So basically I would like to live in Canada because it is really similar to Finland but has some things which Finland doesn't have. By that I mean the daily use of English or French and a lot more forests to go picking berries. Also in Canada I still could continue to do my seasons hobbies. Yippee!

The curse of the black dog

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
8. July 1999
J.K. Rowling
fantasy

J.K. Rowling's fantasy book Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is the third volume of the Harry Potter series. This time Harry is haunted by a black grim, who is believed to be an omen of death for the one who saw it. Unfortinately, Hatty spots the creature several times and ends up in different sorts of dangerous situations. Furthermore a mad man has escaped from the most horrible prison called Azkaban and because of that the school is guarded by cold Dimentors, who eat the happiness of people in order to survive. It sounds like Harry's going to have a great and exciting year once again.

The book was really rewarding to read in English. The story telling was tangible and the jokes made you laugh in few points. For example, the wardrobe boggart scene was one of the funniest moments of the book along with the Weasley brother's actions. As for the story telling, Rowling had writen the situations really precisely, which makes it easy to imagine all the events in your mind. Also there isn't a dull moment in this book. Every chapter has something interesting to read and which kept you sitting on the sofa for more than an hour in a row.

For a Finnish reader who recently has read the book in his or her native language or knows the it's events by heart, there weren't so many unfamiliar words that would have interrupted the reading badly. However, for a new Finnish reader who hasn't read the Finnish version of the book, the spells and other Harry Potter vocabulary could cause a little bit of trouble and at some point disturb the reading so badly that you will have to open the dictionary and see what the word means. Above all the language of the book was mostly understandable and easy to follow.

If you'r looking for a fantasy book with lively and lovely story telling, then Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban is the perfect choice for you. It is a great joy for both adults and teenagers to read but small kids could get scared of the Dimentors.

Story about a caged free man

I have always considered myself as a survivor. From many dangerous situations I had made it with only a few scratches. Nuala had always told me to stop living like that but what could I have done about it? If life wasn't fair for me, why should I have let it control me like a robot who is controlled by annoying children? Shattering, smashing and finally tearing me apart, one circuit after another. That's not life, that's not life at all.

In my life, I was willing to do whatever I wanted to make sure that my family stayed wealthy. I had robbed people who had done nothing but caused a lot pain to others, like drug dealers and company men who fire workers for their own purposes. The local police and rich men saw red everytime they heard my name or saw me. ”A boy who hasn't grown since kindergarden”, they often said.

Then again my existence had been good for them. I heard new police officers have been hired almost every day just because of me. A few months back I would have laughed to the idea of more blue trousered men running around the streets looking for me. You see, I was like gold, worth a lot but hard to get. I would have survived my entire life living like this but I made a small mistake...

It was on the 24th day of December. Everyone was enjoying their holidays and it was snowing a bit. Grownups were making food ready for the evening meal while their children were gliding down the hill me and my friends use to play at ages ago. I can still feel it, the wind blowing you hair back and your body feeling a refreshing blow when you slided down the hill. Wish I had time to take Alicia there too.

As for me I had one job planned for that day before I would have gone back home. I was going to steal one famous painting back from a criminal gang which had caused some resentment for a few people in the art business. I thought it was time to give them a lesson about good stealing and bad stealing. So, I went inside their base near the junkyard and snatched the masterpiece without anyone noticing. Piece of cake, I thought...Piece of cake.

Then I started driving home, to my wife, to my small girl. For some odd reason I was really satisfied, when I was driving back home. The feeling was something I hadn't experienced for a long time. It brought back good memories, memories of the times when I was different, lived a different life which other people controlled for me. But those days were over, I reminded myself. I shouldn't start to miss that kind of life, not when I had everything.

So I returned to my house, opened the door and yelled: 'Honey, I'm home!'. But no one answerd. I left my car keys on the table near the front door and tried one more time. Nothing happened. The house was dark and seemed really empty, lifeless, abandoned. I thought that it was nothing. They must have been already sleeping. But when I went to the bedroom door, I only managed to open the door, just a little until everything suddenly went black and an enourmous pain struck on the back of my head.

The next thing I knew, I was somewhere else. Lying on the ground like a body on a crime scene where the police officers weren't feeling sorry for me. Instead, they were laughing and making fun of me. I cumbersomely rose up from the ground and started to think what had happened earlier. I tried and tried, tried to remember until finally the memory came back to me. I had been knocked out but by who? Who had been at my house and had done such a thing?

”Okay fellow, time to go. We have a good cell waiting for you”, said the police officer who came to pick me up. I was taken to this large police van and inside I sat down. They left the door open for a small moment. While I was waiting for them to take me away I quickly saw Nuala getting some money from the police. She took it all and then looked back at me with her innocent blue eyes. She didn't have to say anything. I knew she was sorry. And still is. I smiled back and nodded good bye. As the door slammed behind me, I knew I would never go back.

A breath-taking adventure in a dream

Title: Inception
Release: July 14, 2010
Director: Christopher Nolan
Genre: Sci-Fi, Thriller
Leading actor: Leonardo DiCaprio

Have you ever thought of how powerful dreams can be? While your dreaming, you create an extraordinary world where everything is possible. You can walk on the walls, fly inside hotel rooms and even be chased by some unknown people. But if you think about dreams a bit more, there are some secrets hidden inside them. Secrets that are memories of great times with your family, or important codes that no one else should know about. What if someone could enter your dream, and steal those secrets from you?

Inception is Christopher Nolan's latest successful Sci-Fi movie, which tells about a thief named Dom Cobb, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, whose mission is to get back home to his two children. To do that, Dom needs to accomplish one last task, create an impossible-inception to Robert Fisheys mind in dreamstate. But unfortinately, Dom and his group are haunted by the memories of his past. Will they pull the mission off or will they be traped inside the dream forever?

The movie is a totally outstanding presentation. The dreamstates are tangible experiences where you actually feel like your flying along with others. The storyline sometimes gets a bit confusing because of the jumping from dream to another, and from there, you jump to another dream from inside the one dream where you were just a minute ago. That makes the storyline a bit hard to follow at first, but later on, you get used to the idea and then it's more understandable to watch.

The acting, however, was even more brilliant than the special effects used in the film. The moments in Cobb's memories are the best gifts the movie can offer you. You can literally feel his pain towards his family, whom he hasn't seen for years. The other charaters boost the feeling even more when the youngest member of the group starts to investigate her partner's past.

Overall the movie is worth watching if you are looking for an exciting, breath-taking adventure where everything is possible if you just have a little faith to others.

Poem about the weathers and you

If the moon smiled, she would resemble you
Even in the darkest times,
I could see your face
a warm light on the black sky

Nothing could ever replace you,
not a thousand stars,
not a hundred days and nights,
I wouldn't trade you for a shooting star!
No,
I couldn't ever exchange you

After dark, there always comes the light
When the sun shines, I can't see you
That's the time I start missing you
But I know your there, bringing light to others
To kids, to adults, to grandparents,
to little old me.....

Don't mention rain
Then I can't see you at all
Storm is like a desperate call
for someone to hear, to listen to, to understand

Let me tell you the truth
You'r none of those things, you'r both
the moon and the sun
less or more
like spring and fall
the core, from which you came
what you are and what you will become
is a mystery, a great secret
for no one else to know
except for me.
